Bath fan ducted to soffit ?

running the vent pipe out to the soffit, leaving it unterminated in the eve is the same as venting to the attic (against code here for a long time )

Yes and this can lead to mold or rotted roof decking. May take some time but this can cost the owner a lot of money in the long run.

Not only that but once you have the vent mounted then you need enough room to connect the ducting to the soffit vent ( get both hands in there ) and there really isn't room for that.

Roof vents are the easiest to connect to and roofers install those all the time, they just don't do them for free.

The time I did it, I had enough Flex at the eve to pull it through the hole I cut in the eve, put a hose clamp around it, clamped it to the vent, then screw the vent to the soffit.

I've done that way as well. If it's in a tight spot you can even send a fish-tape through the hole into the attic and pull the flex duct in.

I'm told , and told by my contractors insurance provider, that i'm not insured to do any roof penetrations

As such , 'venting' becomes problematic , and is excluded in my bids

That means you aren't allowed to do through the roof service entrance masts either.

Same here, we vent fans all the time and it's always through a soffit or sidewall, never a roof. It ain't rocket science. :happyno:

I've vented them all different ways including many through the roof. As you said even that is not rocket science.

Nobody around here is inspecting the venting, I used to vent them to outdoors just because I knew it is the code in many places and can possibly lead to moisture related problems. I had nothing but call backs and complaints and even problems in my own house (especially when vented thru the roof) with cold air entering via the venting and condensation forming in the venting and dripping onto the bath floor. I have gone back to just running them into the soffit now. If the attic has proper ventilation it shouldn't be much of a problem anyway.

Which is where i learned about it

and nobody inspects them here either , but it's kinda the golden rule in construction that one doesn't mess with another's job

so i ask....even though i may now what to do

How far does one take such a rule? We always attach things to other's construction, cut holes in other's construction, etc.

Even installing underground wiring for a service or to another building/structure could be seen as something the landscaper's should be doing:blink:
