Bathroom Electrical

I started a new thread for the bathroom electrical question:

Is this switch in or out of the shower?
Is this location grandfathered (house is 100+ yrs)?

The tile, shower and switch location are all original. Owner removed all knob and tube wiring and replaced with romex.

A picture says a thousand words. Click on it to enlarge it:

Owner is concerned of
1) finding tile if the switch is moved
2)even if tile is found, can it be installed well enough without water entry problems.

Yes, it's in the shower. But being able to see the shower base might give us a better idea.

I don't understand your comment about finding tile if the switch is removed. What's all that white stuff on the walls in the shower? Cardboard boxes?

Just move the switch to the other side of the wall. Simple as pie.

It is outside of the shower, it would be no different than the illustration.

Can what be installed well enough? The switch or the tile?

Roger the switch is within the confines of the shower base. Look at the shower curtain.

I don't know that, I can't see the base, can you?

Do you think the shower curtain is outside the base or inside the base, I would bet inside the base.

And if the curtain is actually touching the inside of the base then I would still say the device is outside.

The OP should just take a level and check it or even use a plumb bob.

Then how can you say it is okay or outside the shower. :D

Because it's outside of the curtain, so how can you say it's not. IOW's "back at ya" :D

Unless I am going blind when that curtain is closed the switch will be right at or inside that curtain. Wanna bet???? :D

Would some sort of 'air switch' be permissible in this location? The actual electrical switch would then be located in the wall well outside of the shower stall; with a pneumatic actuating button in the shower stall area.

No need to apologize-- just buy glasses with the money you owe me. ;) Heck I didn't even see the receptacle

Turn it 180 then install a blank cover till tile is found. It is not what i call safe.Little dought that it will get wet.

Use a WP cover with the gasket. No rule against having a j-box in a shower, is there?
