Life is differant here.A few stickers makes the inspector happy. They seldom have power on with a final.Hot checks are from t pole or gen. Some wait till meter is set to do hot checks.Thats a bad time to find problems.Average home gets final in less than 10 minutes.

The last final I got was on a kitchen and bath remodle, the inspector had us open the main panel, looked at ever cercuit, checked phasing on the MWBC's checked the grounds, that took at least 10 minutes. Then went in the kitchen inspected there, checked all the GFI'ed outlets and had us shut off circuits one at a time to make sure that they were labled correctly and nothing was on with the small apliance circuit. The inspection lasted at least 25 minutes. I was glad that she did her job thoroughly. This was in San Francisco they charge $80. per inspection on top of the permit cost, 10min wouldn't be justified at that price.

Allen, I must admit, this seems strange to me. How can the inspector "inspect" things with no power? Especially gfcis? That always seems to be one thing inspectors are real sticklers on. Do you go back later and check everything?

This is just the way they do it here.Meter is released by the county after a final inspection. There is no actual gfci operational inspection done, that is why they insist that required gfci receptacles have a sticker affixed to them or they will tag the job for no gfci protection.

As far as a hot check goes that is up to the EC to decide either to use a genset or use a hot check cord or wait till the meter is set.Waiting till a meter is set usually messes things up since many meters are set after the house is final cleaned and ready to close.I`ve actually seen homes go to closing without a meter set and also have seen some close without an electric final.Which means they close without an actual C.O.I know I wouldn`t close on a home without the C.O.I`ve often wondered how the bank allows this to happen.
