Bathroom or Water Closet

Hello All,

A friend of mine is doing a schoolc job and asked if I knew the answer to this question.

If a 'Bathroom' is defined as a room equipped for taking a bath or shower and usually a sink and toilet and a 'Water Closet' is defined as a room or booth containing a toilet and often a washbowl, do the same code rules apply to both??

Situation:

In a school 'bathroom' (which does NOT contain a bathtub or shower), does a 125V receptacle have to be GFCI protected since you could consider the bathroom as a 'Water Closet'?? What if the recept is more than 6 arc feet away from any water outlets? Does that make a difference or as I asked earlier are both rooms considered equal?

210.8(B) Other Than Dwelling Units. All 125-volt, single-phase, 15- and 20-ampere receptacles installed in the locations specified in (1) through (5) shall have ground-fault circuit-interrupter protection for personnel:
(1) Bathrooms

100 Bathroom. An area including a basin with one or more of the following: a toilet, a tub, or a shower.

I would say yes GFCI is needed

Powder rooms also need them. toilet, sink and thats it = GFI outlet;)
 
How about a room with a sink with a door leading to a room with a toilet and tub? Meaning off the hallway you walk through a door into a pass through room with the sink, then through another door to the tub/toilet. Both are only accesible from the hallway door. I had this on a New House I did a few years back, though about omitting the GFCI just to have a little fun, then I thought better of it!
