Sure as long as the receptacle is within 3 ft of the ouside edge of both basins

How do you define outside edge when the two basins are next to each other?

IMO the wording would prevent two basins that were 3' wide from sharing an outlet although that is not the intent of the code. With two basins the measurement should be from the inside edge of either basin similar to when you have only one basin.

Splinetto, Please, Ignore the technical mumbo jumo that this thread is heading towards. One receptacle is fine and allowed.

My answer is that a basin has two outside edges, one to the left and one to the right. (I am, of course, only looking in two dimensions, but I think the code is too.) So if you have two basins side by side, and each is 3.5 feet wide, and there is one foot between them, and if you put a receptacle in the wall between them, then that receptacle will be within 3 feet of the right-hand outer edge of the basin on the left, and it will be within 3 feet of the left-hand outer edge of the basin on the right.

If you put a receptacle to the right of a single basin, the opposite of "outside edge" is not "the left side of the basin." Rather, the opposite, the "inside edge," is on the right side of the basin, probably about an inch to the left of the "outside edge," and is the edge beyond which the basin curves downwards towards the drain.

Not nessacarily. I have many times worked on vanities in master bathrooms that were 8 ft or more long with one bowl on each end. In that case one receptacle in the center is too far from both basins to meet the requirements of 210.52(D).
