does a bathroom switch have to be 3ft away from edge of tub, too? And if the adjacent wall does not permit a 3ft clearance, what then? A gfci breaker?

Interestingly, it is for UK tubs. There are odd exceptions but usually things like very long bathrooms rooms.

NEC will allow it right next to the tub. (404.4)
