It is a microprocessor controlled, so I would check with the manufacturer on compatibility. The last “new” one I put in was about five years ago.Here is the nameplate on the charger. It is not a new charger. They want it moved to another building and I'm thinking it was on 208V but not sure since the building has two services.

Math looks good.
Not continuous load. You said one forklift. No way could that be continuous load by my knowledge of forklift operation.
i.e. not full current for 3 hours plus.

I'll be running #8 copper anyway and the 50A breaker is the same price as the 40A, so I will just cover my bases.Math looks good.
