Is there any standard or recommendation regarding the maximum distance or separation between the protection device and the primary side of a transformer? There is a 250 kVA 480/208 Vac transformer to be installed 150 m (492 ft) apart from a switch-gear, the feeder from the switch-gear to the transformer has a thermal-magnetic breaker and the discussion is if this breaker is considered as primary protection of the transformer or on the contrary a protection device (fuse, breaker, relay, etc.) must be installed near the transformer.
