It depends on the voltage of the batteries and the ratings of the equipment they are connected to.

And if the system uses a grid tie inverter (GTI) you will not have any batteries at all.
For off-grid battery systems the highest common voltage is 48V nominal, which could be twenty-four 2V batteries in series.
Voltages above 48VDC usually involve factory configured battery packs.
