Best design for carport lighting control

I have a high-end client with a new carport. We are installing LED strip along the whole stone perimeter for accent lighting that also will help illuminate the space.

I am wondering what the best way to switch the lighting would be? The simplistic would be a photo-cell right? But when they are not there(most of the time) those lights are still working overnight for no reason.

Would a motion sensor make sense here? There would have to be two, one higher on the drive catch the approach and the other at the carport to come on when people are moving close by.

Any suggestions if you have done something similar?

I also think motion sensing is a good idea. I you can't find a pair that will work together, you could try using a pair of relays to parallel the outputs.

You should probably have both motion sensors and a photo cell. No need for them to light up during the daytime.

High end client and they are worried about how much it costs to keep the lights on?? Put them on photocontrols and let them be on every night whether they are there or not. A dark house is a great way to advertise "hey, nobodies home. Come on in!".

They are not worried. I was just considering the lifespan of the lights and driver. But you're right, probably not something to be concerned with

All the more reason to use a quality product from a name brand manufacturer that you can get replacements for if need be.

Residential. 2020NEC 210.70(C) clarification is light required in a equipment room or closer. And is a Hall light outside of the equipment room are closets sufficient to meet codes.
