Should i run pvc or uf cable? If i ran pvc, then you 90 up to a bell box then mount the lawn light on top? What about at the end of the run when there is only one 90 holding the bell box and the lawn light what additional support do you recommend.I've never installed lawn lights so i want to get some advice please thank you.

Better you rigid pipe if you want them to last more than a season in the lawn.

Jethro recommends using one of these. A light can be mounted on the top.

Outdoor residential lighting gone low-voltage xfmr w/6" direct burial or sprinkler cable. Big box kits, and splice connectors, are super cheepo.

Time and Material for rigid 120v outdoor fixtures, installed or repaired costs. Special trenching equip. 18-24", plumbing tools for threading/cutting rigid, and $100+ supply house for each $120v fixture.

In my opinion, NEVER run UF.

Exposed wp boxes are too vulnerable to damage and they don't hold up to the elements.

Permapost

I used to make my own posts with 2" or 2 1/2" PVC or 3" ABS. The plastic pieces that hold the post in place aren't really necessary. Put some concrete/mortar around them if you want to make them really sturdy.

Cut your 12" (or whatever) long stubs and drill 1/2" holes in a cap to accept the fixture

First i want to thank everyone.

I saw those light posts it looks like there is a hole on the bottom is that where i run the pipe?It sounds like i should use rigid from what i read.I guess it just about figuring it out the first time doing something and learning from it.

I guess it depends on the area of the country you live, Down here with all the rain, Rigid pipe underground doesn't last but 10 years. It always rust out at ground level where the water sits. We usually run Sch 40 PVC underground with sch 80 stub ups

I've just 90 up into the bottom of the permapost before. You sould be using THWN/THHN, suitable for wet locations anyways. Thread your light or box or whatever onto to threads on top. Could use a threaded rigid nipple if you want.

Just run Sch 40 PVC, it's all underground anyways, maybe 80 if you stub up next to the house.

rab makes the mighty post which ive used and works well and arlington makes the garden post which i also used and it works well. with the garden post you can run 1/2 pvc right in and terminate it to the post. it comes with piece of plastic that slides in with holes for 1/2 inch conduit

Even wrapped rigid doesn't last here in the desert.

PVC is the way to go. It will last forever and is tough as nails. You are not going to slice it with a shovel.

Do you just poke the PVC up inside the post?
Yes, there's actually a "bottom" way up inside that post, accessed through the device covers on the sides. It has two 1/2" knockouts and two 3/4" knockouts.

Yeah, ditto on the Arlington garden post thingamabobs. They work great for pool pump receptacles too as aline showed.

I like kind of a hybrid approach to underground wiring. I use both UF and pvc pipe. Pipe between outlet and light points and end it just before it will come to a garden post or whatever you're using. The you don't have to deal with a direct transition, and you can still pull out the UF at a later date if there is ever a problem.
