Hmmm. Sounds like someone did a major boo boo here.

I sure as heck would not kiss 50 grand away without appealing the inspector's decision up the chain.

It is kind of like an electroconnect whip system. Factory flex whips with male/female plug and play connectors. Each having A,B or C phase adaption.
I did a turn around at one store where shelf "fixtures" were relocated from one spot to another. The flexible wire means needed to be rerouted as well, if the existing was not long enough a barrell of flex whips was available in the back service bay. The methode is very flexible and I have seen it at other simular stores. Is it a tax right off for a non-permantly installed wiring system?

It's sure not priced cheesy though! I did a few Radio Shacks that used this stuff. The wiring that went under the carpet was pretty cool. I have no idea why an inspector would have a problem with it. I'm not sure if this is the same stuff Allspark is talking about ,but here is a link to the stuff we put in (PDF link)

Article 604 2008 for those interested.
I suggest you show this article to the AHJ.
I would be willing to bet a call from one of Best Buy's big shots would get a green tag quick.:D

If that is the case it really should have been brought up during plan review.
Yes, it should have been caught on plan review, however if it was not clear on the prints and buried in the specs it could have been missed. Just having the drawings stamped on plan review does not relieve the requirement to comply with the code rules, even in cases like this.

It also could be a case of an over zealous inspector, and if that is the case, the contractor should be able to recover the extra costs from the inspector's employer.

Well we got the wirring approved through county office but inspector said he had final say so. - Amp Energy is a form of relock Best Buys has 4 cks that goes to all of there fixtures also the recpts are prefabed and the amp wirring plugs into them. This is Best Buy can move fixtures with ease
