Thank you for posting your information.

Disclosure: I am employed by Thomas & Betts, A Member of the ABB Group. This is the same company that owns Carlon.

I don't check in here as often as I should, but when I do, and I see an concern, I normally privately message the person. I leave it up to the individual to post a foll-up on the board, at their choice. The reason I am posting on this thread is there are several people with concerns. I need to make it clear that I am posting as a individual who is truly dedicated to helping people, and not speaking on behalf of my employer.

Carlon offers four different non-metallic box brands with different features at different price points. You can see them here:

If you feel another alternative would better meet your needs, please send me a message. As long as it?s a stock item, I?ll send you some to try. So this is not a 'sales pitch' I need to limit this to those that already posted in this thread.

I don't want free product samples. I want the product I buy to work as it should. I gave Carlon at least 2 years. I'm sure I am one of many having problems with the toggles or ears being too tight on the screws and being a headache to install. When I first noticed it, I called the 800 number on the website on a Saturday but got tired of waiting for an answer.

Look in your database Mr Terminator and see the complaints and have them fixed. Don't offer me free product. I feel the product sold in the store should meet my needs.

All engineers should be required to install their crap for at least a year before it is sold. That's what I think.

Why are the gray Thomas and Betts sn-21 boxes with the case hardened nails, and square knockouts , and on the double and larger gang nail on boxes a rounded safer to the nm cable installed thru them clamp- , boxes not on my wholesaler's shelves any more? When I asked them about it they said to me that Carlon bought out the T+B line and now you can only get the blue junk that is the same as the ones found in places like Home Depot. Really , there is just no comparing the two boxes when put side by side. And - I will say it again- the nails on the blue stuff is total crap.

Dale, thank you for your reply. I sense you are upset. I offer you my apology.

So it?s clear, I?m not in the corporate office. I?m typing this email at 6:05 AM from my hotel room where I am about to leave my room and begin setting-up for a trade show today in Harris Michigan. I?m with end users, at job sites, maintenance facilities, engineering firms, original equipment manufacturers and occasionally wholesale distributors? day in and day out. I perform facility audits, trouble shoot, and help recommend solutions for issues and provide information.

The way I read your post I assume you are upset with my screen name. When I first joined the board, it appeared to me members did not use their actual name. Although I will help people with all my employers? products, my specialty is terminations. Thats why I chose The Terminator. I regret choosing a screen name other them my real name, Doug Ales. If anyone reading this knows how I can edit my user name, please tell me. I?d edit to make it my real name.

As far as a database, the company keeps a very detailed one on reported nonconformity. We use established standards of ISO9000 to document this. I did check and did not find much at all for your described issue, not to say your experience is unique.

Personally, most of my time is spent with industrial or comercial type customers. Just my opinion, when an industrial facility has nonconformity, not just my company, but all suppliers, they tend to follow a procedure that allows a manufacturer to receive, investigate, and correct the issue. By your own post, you did not get the issue reported to the manufacturer, not that I?m blaming you. Thinking about it, I think I could help in this regard.

Many manufacturers have a similar, if not identical process for receiving, investigating and correcting nonconformity issues. I feel pretty strong about this process being ubiquitous amongst manufacturers because I?m far from a newbie, and have experienced many brand acquisitions over my 25 years. Would it help the general members of this board if I explained what is generally called either a PARR or CARR process and how you can get the best possible results based on my experience?

Dale and everyone else, thank you for your cooperation and guidance.

Doug, don't apologize. You don't owe anything to anyone here. Especially not people who are going to talk disrespectfully to you when you are only trying to help out.

Hi Mike,

I just checked our website and SN-21 was discontinued and replaced with B120A-UPC.

The reasons why vendors discontinue products are varied, but in this case, a similar product existed. The SN-21 was part of the old Westinghouse / Challenger / Union brand line that got spun-off when Eaton purchased Westinghouse. I apologize if the consolidation decision went the opposite way you would have preferred.

Here is a link to the Carlon non-metallic boxes that are available

Thank you for your questions Mike.

I am sorry for any disrespect I showed. I just get tired of companies that make product with defects that continue for years. I said what I did about engineers because from my point of view they don't know what the product is supposed to do or how to make it user friendly.

I guess I picked on your screen name because I may have not been feeling good. No excuse, but I was taken by ambulance to the emergency room for 8 hours yesterday over some issues over high blood pressure I never had before.
