Just curious if anyone else has been bagged on an inspection because u used blue staples with 2-14-2rx. I've been in trade 20 years and only one town to this day has called me out on this. Just recently I got called out again. Inspector said code book does not specify this but he went by manufacturer specs. I get this whole thing but is it not pure ball busting to make me change out every blue staple to red on doubled up wires. Blue vrs red staples are insanely different in length. U could fit four 14-2rx under a red. Am I crazy or is this guy a jerk

All I ever use is blue because that's what the supply house gives me when I ask for insulated RX staples, and I use them with up to two 12/2s. I didn't even know there were longer red staples or that they were color coded. One would think that if you had more than that many cables you would use stackers.

The manufacturers literature only mentions that they are for 14/2 and 12/2, not how many.

There is a larger one for 3 conductor 14,12 and 10. I don't think anybody is going to double up those.

I guess technically it would be a violation to use "blue" staples for 3 conductor cables, but I always do for single 14 and 12/3.

Yea I totally agree with you. So now I have two towns to avoid in the future. I did look on manufacturer spec and on the red staple it sais use for two rx conductors. The inspector is a young kid probably trying to prove something. I just hate the power these guys have

Here's the specs

Apparently Briscon is the only manufacturer that makes red (and yellow) staples in addition to blue. So color coding is not a standard and any AHJ that tells you you have to use red staples- just tell him you have no idea what he's talking about.

Is it better to just do it to not piss him off lol?

Not required here, but very common. I like the extra protection and feel I can work a little faster because I dont have to be quite as careful driving them.
The only time I've seen people use them here, is when the boss/owner doesn't trust his guys.

Newbies and commercial guys use them.

I use Thiel staples
