Boiler tech no show.

oh god, just the one when another guy and myself were trouble shooting one. It blow up thank god no one was hurt. Valve was hanging up sucking to much gas into the unit.

If you don't have good working knowledge of combustion controls, safety interlocks or have test equipment to verify safety equipments proper set points. I would not put yourself or others in harms way.

I usually go find a schematic first. Also the mfg book with a description of operation is helpful.

Start tracing back to see which one of the safeties/interlocks is open.

All I have seen are pretty simple. Water level switch, overtemp switch, fire eye, purge timer (usually in the controller), controller

One reminder (and you likely already know this) - be leary of jumping out safeties/interlocks. Just maybe they are telling the truth and there is a reason they are open.

Schematic is key.

Gas is shut OFF when we check controls. We regularly work on grain dryers that use lbs of pressure vs ounces.

Called for the Gas Co service tech again this morning and watched him drive by an hour or so later. Manager found him down at local coffee shop where he was having coffee 1st. He also explained that he had never really worked on a boiler before. Worst service I have seen out of a company.

The manager found another company to come in. I could not help with the two items we did find problems with. A motorized gas valve and the UV flame detection. Low pilot flame.
 
I had a good one one time where there was a kill switch at the outside door under a glass button. If you broke the little glass the buttonpopped out, you shut down everything. But you need a map. Can't do anything without a map.
 
We had noticed that the motorized gas valve had an arm that was attached to a damper. It was connected but did not work with the GV motor as intended. Broken internally to GVM. We had full air at all times. This blew the pilot away from the UV sensor causing everything to shut down after xxx seconds. I knew the damper wasn't working right but didn't put it all together. I know now.

Well, now I must ask what this boiler is used for. :) Because a boiler that isn't used in the winter sure sounds strange to me. :D
