TJ, this is not true. It is true that the gas company does not want their lines grounded or used as an electrode however they usually have a dielectric fitting at the meter. The code req. all piping to be bonded- read 250.104(B) as stated above. The egc can be used as the bond for the gas line.

If it is CSST tubing then a #6 or larger is needed back to the service panel.
