I thought you need solid copper for bonding pools. 680.26(C)

Edit. I haven't seen insulated solid in years.

If I remember correctly I've seen it at some services in NC many, many moons ago. But I am old so I may be mistaken.
 
Around here our supply counters know it as "pool bonding wire". It's #8 Solid Green wire... It's pretty much what everyone uses for pools around here.

Here too. The supply house sells that stuff for pools. You aren't permitted to pull a green #8 solid in a raceway so I'm guessing that it would little other use.

Pulling the insulation thru the small lugs is my issue. I tried to crimp the wires in a "u" and slide it in, but nogo.

I think it has to do with ground faults and stray voltages of OTHER systems and keeping them off the pool grounding system and making them go back to the source.
 
I believe we take the lug off because the screw is in the way, slip the wire through it (just stripping what we need for the lug and tightening it down there) then putting it back on the pump. This way we don't have to strip several feet of wire...
 
A good idea but I tried that already. There is an indentation (screw threads) inside the lug that is making my life difficult.
 
Honestly, if the lug is suitable for outdoors (wet location), then I really don't see a problem with it. It would seem a lug is a lug but what do I know.

wow regional differences...all I ever see around here is #8 soild bare copper.....used for everything except the wet-niche internal bond.
