As Ryan has stated, there are dielectric fittings at the gas meter as it enters buildings. The POCO does not want our bonding to create a situation where there pipe becomes an electrode.
As an inspector, I see a lot of 'stuff' that as an electrician I would never see - sometimes I wish I did not see this 'stuff'.
What I happen to come across a lot is the heating system is tampered with over years - because they are trying to fix it cheaply. As a result having the gas pipe bonded makes me feel more comfortable.
