according to 250.92 a 2 meter fitting are to be bonded, so we have been requiring contractors to bond meter fitting when they are isolated by pvc, or se cable. 250.142 a allows for the use of the grounded conductor at the supply side of the sevice disconnecting means. which is more appropriate in this application?

Meter sockets usually have a screw that bonds the enclosure to the grounded conductor. Likewise for the first disconnect. I'm not sure what your question is:-?

As A/A said the meter enclosure is already bonded to the neutral so nothing further is required. Using SE cable or PVC doesn't require any additional bonding of the meter enclosure.

I don't think I've ever seen a modern meter base that sisn't have the neutral terminals either directly bolted to the enclosure, or onto a bracket which was.

I agree Larry but the Milbank sockets I use have a bonding screw that could be easily removed thus isolating the meter socket from the grounded conductor. I used the word usually to make that known.
