In this area. We use duct seal to close the opening, if using a non metallic box. But we have to remove the cable from the opening.
I didn't know about the P&S one gang box. But isn't the intent of the 8' for support from a one gang box because there are no clamps? Other boxes have an internal clamp or external clamping device.

Here is what the art. states

Exception: Where nonmetallic-sheathed cable or multiconductor Type UF cable is used with single gang boxes not larger than a nominal size 57 mm ? 100 mm (2? in. ? 4 in.) mounted in walls or ceilings, and where the cable is fastened within 200 mm (8 in.) of the box measured along the sheath and where the sheath extends through a cable knockout not less than 6 mm (? in.), securing the cable to the box shall not be required. Multiple cable entries shall be permitted in a single cable knockout opening.

Basically a one gang does not need the tabs to hold the cable to the box if it is stapled within 8". If you have tabs then the staple may be 12"

All I am saying is many of the one gangs have the tabs just as the 2 gangs have them. I don't deduct for them in either case.
 
Dont mean to split hairs. But the OP said "internal clamps" not tabs. It's inside the box. so he must of been talking about a multigang box. Right?A clamp is a clamp. So I belive you count them. I don't count tabs.
 
The way I understand it is tabs are not internal to to box and should not be counted. They take up no room in the box. Clamps that are internal to the box would be counted.
