I am thinking of a madison holdit that is used for holding gem boxes in. Which could become energized if a device screw or bare conductor touched it. I guess I don't know what a madison bar is.

Probably the same item with a bunch of different names:

Madison Clips
Madison Hold Its
F Clip

Sure it could become energized ~ but is it "likely"?
If installed properly, no.

Installing one on a plastic box, IMHO, is not a "proper install".
I'll try and find a pdf or something on them....

Thats the same thing I was thinking of and I agree with your reasoning. Also metal switch plates have to be grounded and they are less likely to become energized than the madison holdit.:smile:
 
I call them F-Clips.
I have used them on 3 or 4 gang fiber boxes on the end that isn't mounted to the stud directly to hold them back into the wall if they seem to want to pull forward to much on final.

Hey you left out madison strap, which by the way is the only name I know or have heard it called until now. :)

not only that but I thought all 8x8's have a bent in lip all the way around with the four screw holes for the cover, which seems like a madison strap would not be able to even fold over the box.

Sure, you could. It would bend over the front lip, around it, and tucked into the inside of the lip's fold. A 90, a 180, and another 90.
