The body is cast iron, not formed and welded, which itself offers corrosion resistance if the galvanizing is compromised, such as when you make a conduit penetration. Cast iron is also good for areas where impact may be a risk. The drawback is that to be strongest, it needs reinforcing angles and bosses. It’s difficult to do that on a simple flat lid, so the lid is stamped out of steel since you will not be making conduit entries into the lid. Then each part is dipped it molten zinc for galvanizing to further resist corrosion.
