Box protection on outside walls???

So, we must protect wire passing through a framing member within 1.25" of the edge. So, if a standard 2x4 work box is less than 3/4" of the exterior wall edge and the wires enter the box on the back top/bottom, what method of protection is there from the sider popping a nail through it? For an interior wall, I don't see it as being as much an issue, but exterior is more difficult to assess potential box locations. If sheathing has already been installed, what protection plate is recommended?
