I am currently working on a new elementary school, ridiculously over designed I guess appearance is more valuable than education. Some areas of exterior are finished with a composite wood rainscreen cladding over 3/4 furring attached to exterior gypsum (with fluid applied membrane) over 3/4 furring attached the the ICF wall. The electrical contractor performing the work has used NEMA 1 boxes with device rings deep enough for flush mount on face of siding. There is a 3/16" gap between the 6" composite wood. Is this considered damp location? Should they be using WP boxes or rings? My concern is that if device hits on the gap between boards there is potential for infiltration even with in use gasketed cover. Could someone help clarify before I raise concern with architect or the electrical contractor. FYI I my previous profession was electrical, but I am currently PM for a general contractor to fill an income issue. I appreciate any clarifications if available.
