Branch circuits that originate on a different floor.

Dear Forum members: do you know of any NEC article that doesn't allow for branch circuits to originate on say the 4th floor to feed loads on the 3rd floor?
Main concern is about the local Fire Marshall objecting to it.

The closest thing I can think of in the NEC is 240.24(A) and (B).

If you've met these, the Fire Marshall may have some other reason...?

You've got to be kidding, right?

What does he say about houses with a panel in the basement only?

No NEC article that I know of - but in Illinois, there is a IDPH rule that prohibits this in hospitals (with an exception for the life safety branch).

Thanks for the input guys.
As for more information all I can add is that the fire marshall would like to turn off all power to the floor, in case of an emergency, without having to run to the floor above or below.
Also, the GC was trying to convince the owner that the fire marshall was correct.
I knew from experience that although not "good engineering practice", comercially speaking, the code didn't prohibit the option.

Outdoor 120 v lighting question

Outdoor 120 v lighting question

#1 What types of wire can be run in PVC conduit outdoors?

#2 Is there any reason to upgrade wie size if amperage is not exceeded even with a long run, 1000', and loss?

I have already used #12 and 14 romex and the light work fine. From what I have read on this list Romex can not be used.

not for this thread ...

not for this thread ...

first ... this thread has nothing to do with your questions ... second ... this forum is not for DIYer's, in other words it's for people that are in the trade or one that relates to it ... third ... if you're running #12 or #14 1000 feet, you really need some education in electrical ... call an electrician ... sorry ... m

The FM may be objecting to the Fire Safety power distribution system not at a central location separate from different floor panels. rbj, Seattle

I'm not the only one who has stated the same to previous posters ... get off your high horse ... M
