I have heard the covid story too. I don't know what Mexico would have cause to retaliate trade wise.

Personally I suspect much of the issues with building stuff in the USA these days is the nimby attitude about having factories. You can't have factory jobs without factories.

I don't see that they would have cause for retaliation either. But can see that if plants had been shut down because of illness, it is going to have some impact on availablity of whatever those plants produce.

A small plant I do work in sometimes, has not shut down, but hasn't gotten the orders they normally do these past couple months. They don't make consumer products, but do make ingredients for certain types of food plants and if those plants shut down or reduce production then these ingredients won't be in as big of demand. One problem is when they do get an order the customer wants it yesterday.

An Internet friend is a farmer of sorts. He relayed a story that farmers are testing the pickers coming to pick veggies. Some groups of pickers tested 100% positive for covid so the local health dept is not letting them pick. He is offering $16 an hour. No takers so far.

Too hard of work for locals, easier to draw unemployment and make close to same amount or even more, for anyone that has been displaced from a job.

I was told manufacturing is in Mexico. And there are several distribution centers in the United States for Square D product. Mexico stopped producing because of Covid. We are completely out of Square D home line breaker’s in Brevard County Florida. All the big box stores are sold out.
I asked Raybro supply house today (Square D rep) they said they’re over 200,000 Square D breakers home line and QO On back order.
Supposedly the Mexican plant reopened and production is starting. But there is significant delays. And no time frame in sight.
I have four panel changes this week scheduled and I always use Square D home line in residential application. Thank goodness I have a little bit of an inventory but I’m all out after this week.
