There is no difference, because you cannot compare them.
Breakers sense current either; thermally, electronically, or magnetically.
Breakers trip after sensing an amount of current for a specific amount time. The common trip "curves" are; instant, time delay, inverse (the greater the current the faster the trip time).
So, it is possible to have a thermal sensing breaker with an inverse time trip curve.
