Making a small hole beside the box is a good idea, but around here most boxes are 4x4 with a mud ring that may reduce the size of the wall opening to single gang. Then the hole will be outside the cover plate. Why not use the existing holes in the box to inject foam as someone suggested?

Yes using 4 sq/1900 boxes & mud rings that is the way to go. Just be sure to keep the spray foam out of your box.

I forgot to mention but a long time ago saw greatstuff foam used to pull box back out of wall. We were using caddy box supports and the metal bracket got bent, the box was flapping in the wall. Coworker stuffed some insulation in the hole below the box opened a KO in the back and sprayed foam in he did it in increments to avoid over expansion but seemed to work. LOL

Good points there as well, if you are exhausting air someplace then makeup air must come in someplace.

Yup - and it's particularly important to consider that when dealing with some of the new super-size range hoods that are finding their way in to homes these days. Get it wrong and make-up air rushing down the fireplace chimney will distribute ashes evenly and completely over every inch of milady's pristine white living room.

Don't ask me how I know that. :happyyes:
