I have had a problem with BRK 9120B smoke detectors in one of the new houses that we just finished. Every other day or so one of the smokes would start blinking and would give a single beep. Not the low battery chirp, but a loud 1-2 second beep. Tried reseting each one as it happend. The home owner obviously got tired of this after a while, so we replaced all 7 smokes with new BRKs. They were ok for about 2 days and the whole thing started over again. We pulled all 7 out and install new FireX 4518. No more problems yet, it has been 2 weeks. Has anyone heard of this or know what might cause this. Scott

Re: BRK smoke detector problem.

There was a recall in 1977 but I don't think that is your case. Did you try to isolate by unplugging one at time? I have been using BRK for about a year and no problems yet (12 per home)

Re: BRK smoke detector problem.

I have been using BRK for 10 years and we put in hundreds a year and have never seen this, which makes me think that it is something with the house. We did try to isolate it to an area or a particular smoke, with no luck. Also I talked to teck support at BRK and they were basicly no help at all.

Re: BRK smoke detector problem.

I've had similar symptoms with Firex as of late but it seems to only happen briefly after they are first energized. It's almost as if they are calibrating themselves. No call backs as of now.

Re: BRK smoke detector problem.

We've installed BRK for years.

My guess is temperature. If it gets too cold, they will go off.

There could be one in a basement or an attic that it is the culprit.

If these are the new design, the one that is causing the signal should be blinking, that way you can narrow it down.

Re: BRK smoke detector problem.

I had the same problem with those smokes. I replaced older units with the BRK's. Turns out they were fed from a circuit that also had a freezer on it in the basement. The only thing I can think of is when the compressor kicked on it caused a voltage sag causing the smokes to in effect loose power. Fed the smokes from a different circuit and all ahs been well. (Fingers crossed)

Read through the troubleshooting info and the faq's.
