Got a box of Buchanan Crimp Splice Caps here that says to insulate with "BCP 7210 or 2007 Splice Cap Insulators." I'm familiar with the 2007 caps, but what is a 7210? I see nothing about that part number in the Ideal catalog. Can't find anything doing a google search, either.

I even dogpiled it and came up with a nokia phone .

Their part numbers are formatted as "XX-XXX" but the only reference to even "410" is a 30-410 which is a steel crimp...

No one really seems to use the 2007 caps anymore huh? I've never seen them sold anywhere except online... and they arent cheap.

72-410 is the crimping tool that mates with the barrel you have posted.
Most crimps are specifically required by the manufacturer to be crimped with their listed tool.

The package referred to 72-410 as an insulator, not a tool... I'm familiar with the C24 crimp tool, what is a 72-410?

The 72410 is an old Ideal crimper part number. It was basically the 3-nest yellow-blue-red crimper.

Here's a scan of both sizes of crimp sleeves, and I don't see that mentioned:

A search of Ideal's site for the term "72-410" yields this:

http://www.idealindustries.com/prodSearch.do?page=0&input=72-410

The "410" is what they called their steel crimp sleeve, like the Buchanan copper crimp sleeve. Now that they own Buchannan, some duplicate products, maybe like certain wrap caps, have probably been obsoleted. The 72-410 was definitely an Ideal crimper part number, however. Everything in their crimp sleeve product line starts with "30".

What troubles me most is the fact that you're buying the wee packs of crimp sleeves at the home improvement store :)

I don't know. I left my crystal ball at the shop. When I run that search, I am looking at several ideal products, none of which have the 72-410 product number.

So it seems as though all of those products are coming up from that search because they are associated with that tool. It's just not mentioned on any of the pages...

No, if you run that same search for just "410" or even pick any number out of the sky, like "69-410", those same results come up.

So what's the difference here? Why the same product put out under two different names?
