Is there a minimum burial depth for multi-pair telephone distribution cable specified by NEC? Is it covered by the 24 inch requirement for 0-600 volt cable.:-?

The phone company around here buries their residential cable 3" sometimes 6" but they also get it dug up all the time.

telephone cables

telephone cables

In this area the EC installs all conduit for phone company mostly 1" for residential and 4" for commercial (they install a fifty pair) which you could do w/ 1" and you also have to instll the mule tape for them. Job security:D :D

in this area I swear that they lay the cable on the ground just before installing the sod.
The sod guys usually get there before the cable-TV guys do around here. :)

"We'll run the cable now, and another crew will come back to bury it later."

You have to hire the neighborhood kids to act like telephone poles when you mow until "later" gets here.

In Washington State I got a state code rule that adopts the burial depth requirements of 300.5 for telephone and such. But none of the NEC applies on the utility side of the demarc.

hehe, here in ny most of the time the telephone guys just overhead their drop or jam it about 1" underground with a shovel. MANY times the cable guys just lay it on the ground, dont even attempt to bury it. Said its not thier responsibility. We always bury it in a 3/4" pipe. Between 6"-24" for rigid metal (which i prefer) or 18 inches for pvc (some residential work)
