20 plus years holding license for Chicago, you will need to have a supervising electrician license to be able to do any work in the chicago area. The Chicago Code requires a contractor to employ at least one person holding the license for supervising electrician, which can also be the owner of the company. Need more info on this let me know, my license is still active up there. Continental Testing is the company that runs the licensing, you will need to contact them to get signed up for and take the exam. Its based on the Chicago Electrical code not the NEC. The exam is tough, so depending on your test taking methods and skills, its not impossible, but knowing your way though the code books is key.

To open a networking installation contractor business in Chicago, you’ll need to obtain a business license from the City of Chicago, register with the Cook County Assessor’s office, and possibly acquire a contractor’s license depending on the work you’ll be doing. You may also need specialized certifications in networking, like those from Cisco or CompTIA, and comply with local building codes and regulations. It’s a good idea to consult the City of Chicago’s business affairs office for specific requirements!
