buss bar swingplug re-installation

If I have a 200A buss bar with a 30A swingplug in a slot, that was being used for an older machine that hasn't been used in years. And we deside too put a new machine that needs a 60A swingplug. Can I take out the 30, and put the 60 in it's place?
 
Yes, if (1) the bus manufacturer has a compatible 60 amp plug, and if (2) you use conductors rated at 60 amps for the new machine.
 
now the challenging question...do you exchange with the buss bar "on":grin:

I'm not worried about calculations, or PPE. The ? was about deterioration on the buss bar after you pull off a swing plug and if you can re-use that open slot for a different swing plug in the future?
 
I assume the OP means busway?

As for installing the bus-switch. OFF OFF OFF OFF...I have been involved in too many repairs where electricians were burnt from attempting to install on energized busway and then there is the one death....


Those involved in any post arc blast iinvestigations/repairs where electricians were burnt know the burn damage to the body is horrific.

Most manufacturers have an approved contact lubricant that must be used when plugs are re-installed. Slots are designed to be re-used as long as the bars and housing are not damaged.
