Another problem in S.F., and one I just discovered recently when a customer I've had for about 10 years hired somebody else, is that GCs can obtain electrical permits. They can then turn around and hire undocumented sidekicks to do the electrical work and show up for inspections themselves. That is what happened in this particular case and I'm sure it's not rare. It's illegal, but who's going to report it?

In California an EC's employees have to be certified electricians or registered apprentices.

Again you are correct on both counts. The problem with the certification law is that it has no teeth and no enforcement provisions.

Who say's it's illegal and why. Are you reffering to illegal aliens or just non certified employees.
I personally faught the issue that a GC can do the electrical on a job but not have to hire certified Electricains but a C-10 must do so. The lobbiests failed us. Originally the law was to include all electrical work by anyone.

should we start another thread on this?

Looks like that's right. Anyone can do electrical work under a B license, I guess, but not under a C-10. That makes no sense.

Electrician certification program

To All Electricians working for C-10 Contractors

Who needs to be certified to work in California as an electrician? Electricians who work for a contractor with a class C-10 license.

No need for a new thread. I'll end it right here.
