CA PE exam experience

So I started working under a PE in California about 6 months ago. I have my BSEE and I guess that counts as 4 years towards the experience requirements thus I need 2 more years of experience. My question is, does the "experience" time clock start after you take the FE exam or when you start working under a PE? For me, I took the FE while still in college so there is a 10 month gap between taking my FE exam and starting my job.
 
In LA where I am licensed, the 5 year clock starts when you are working under a PE, with your degree in hand. The four or five years spent obtaining the degree definitely do NOT count. But again, that's LA. Every state has their own take on the registration process, though most are pretty similar.
 
In California, you need a total of 6 years of experience. You get credit for the 4-year degree as of the date of graduation. You need 2 more years of experience working under the supervision of a PE. I have CA PE and concur with Charlie.
