Sorry for the slang. We would call the cutters in post #2 a pie cutter. I never asked why. I'm sure there is a story.

My vote is for rachet cutters. One reason is it can give you a free hand to hold the conductor.

I have a pair of long-handled chompers for medium-sized stuff, but I usually use my 36v Dewalt recip with a corase metal-cutting blade for anything else.

Recip saw saves the day every day. 1,000,001 uses
