A couple years ago an area town that has it's own code enforcement required I fill out paperwork for energy usage on lighting for a commercial building. IDK if anyone reviewed it or not. Wasn't hard to comply with what they asked.
There is a lot of stuff in there besides voltage drop. I have gotten snagged on transformers and motors by the energy code.
Right , but I think that is what we are saying: there is a whole lot of other electrical stuff in these energy codes and in many areas it is just not enforced. Honestly I didn't even know what the IECC was until this thread, I had to Google it. I guarantee my inspector here in upstate NY (Third party) doesn't know anything whatsoever about it either. Most inspectors/inspection agencies have a tough enough time keeping up with the NEC, not to mention adding a whole 'nother big legalese document into the mix. They just don't have time to learn it, let alone go thru it and cite violations in the field. Then there is the issue of who technically is supposed to inspect/enforce it. An L&I inspector told me (the Washington State electrical inspectors) that they do not enforce the Washington energy code because despite it being law, the legislature apparently never addressed who was responsible for enforcing and inspecting it and never assigned an agency to it.
