May not be very visible, but I'm sure you shoot in many varying conditions, rain, high humidity, moving from hot to cold, etc... Point and shoot cameras don't typically have a whole lot of glass, so it doesn't take much to screw up the optics.

+1 for most cameras not being able to reach the 250,000 mark without replacing the shutter mechanism. I think it is time for a new camera. I would definitely look into an SLR, as everything you buy usually can be rebuilt or repaired for less that a new camera, even the lenses can be recalibrated. With a P&S, even the better than average ones as you state you have, are disposable IMO.
