Nice photo stickboy. But how about the EXIF data? We need to turn this thread even further off topic. :)

Well what type of butterfly is it??? Great picture and I believe the butterfly is one of the Fritillary butterflies. My guess is the Great Spangled Fritillary

I need to speak out in favor of Canon, since it has been out-posted 2 to 1 by Nikon users.

Canon 20D, 70-200mm F/4L lens:

Canon for great skin tones, Nikon for machines and stuff. For some reason we could never get enough white balance control out of the Nikons to give us good skin tones at weddings. Remember, brides want to look better in pictures than they do in real life! Nikons are great for sports too, they are a little faster and have better buffers than Canons.

I appreciate the comments and the helpful guiding along in the posts.

One of the problems is always $$. I also have many cameras.
1. knocked out of my hand by acident on a job - sits on my shelf for now
2. One I dropped - also on the same shelf
3. my wife now has it
4. a point & shoot I take with me for comparison pictures
5. The "bridge" type camera - which I did buy the lower cost one - jury is still out yet

I do take a lot of pictures for inspection records.

I do have an ULTIMATE goal/reason for the pictures though...it will be a secret until I am ready to let the cat out of the bag...maybe a few more weeks. ;)
Don't ask, as I will not tell.

I'm not gonna ask, but I bet its a coffee table book

Can you show a back view and a picture from further away?

Hmmm......

This is only part of the device, but if you have ever seen one you will know what it is.

I have many more pics of this but I have to re-size them and upload them to PhotoBucket.

All, be aware, please, that these pics are *my* copyrighted material. The 'device' pics are part of an article I am writing for publication in a book and / or a magazine. To that effect, I don't know how much of the device I want to post here....let me think about it for a while.

Based on your signature and Username, I would tend to lean to some type of early Amateur Radio equipment. Looks like a battery on the left, receiver/transmitter in middle, and antenna on the right.

Some type of morse code transmitter/receiver is my current guess.

BTW: Ham operator myself.

You are getting *very* close! Hint, these things were outlawed in 1927.

What's your call sign? I wouldn't mind having a QSO with someone here on this board!

Mainly operate on 2 Meters. I am trying to get my Ham Shack set up back up. (Waiting on some good Hamfests.)

I am an ARRL member. Member of BARS.
Have previously served as an officer with BARS - many years ago!

Let me know what frequencies you operate. I'll see if I can QSO.

How About: Spark Gap Transmitter?

Close enough. That is a rotary disc for an asynchronous damped wave (spark gap) transmitter. It was home made a couple years ago by a friend of mine, Karl W8KGR, a retired IBEW electrician. He did all the metal machining and wood work you see. The entire thing is a work of art. He made his own condensers and inductors. The thing transmits on 300 meters. We can't actually use it due to current FCC law prohibiting the use of DW transmitters.

Good catch! I know of very few people that have ever seen one of these things.

At home I am on 75,20,40,15,17 and 10 and 2 when all the antennas are in place. Right now I have suffered some storm damage and need to do some repairs. I have a 2/440 dual bander in the van. There are some Echolink repeaters in the area and I also have CQ100. I am getting set up for PSK31 which Techs can operate on 10 meters. Techs can now also work SSB at 200W max on 28.3 to 28.5. My 10 meter vertical is still up and that looks like the best possibility in the upcoming months. We may have to set up a sked. PM me when 10 starts to open. I QSL 100 percent and design my own cards. Some of them have my original photo work on them. We live near a lighthouse on a pier and it makes for a good card.

PS Check out the QRZ bio for W8SS. I will be working there on some NEC/MRC issues on his 200 foot tall rotating tower. Stacked Yagis. On 10 he has 13/13/13 phased Yagis and on 80 he has a 4 square phased vertical array. Totally awesome.
