Yes you can dim 3 ways

Yes you can dim 3 ways

Just remember the dimmer only goes in one location and the other switch is just a 3 way. I dont think the dimmer would know if you put a 4 way in as long as you didnt try to 3way dim atthe 4way location. Usually 600 or 1000 watts a little bpricey tho.

You can install dimmers at both ends if you connect the travelers properly. However, this may be confusing to the user since one switch must be in the undimmed position for the other dimmer to work. I prefer a single dimmer. And, you can use 4-ways with a single dimmer but not with 2 dimmers.

Or you could get the dimmers that work together and can dim from both ends. It's been a few years since I installed any, but they're out there. They use the travelers to 'talk' to each other.

I don't get it... how does it know which dimmer to "listen" to? If one is at the lowest setting and the other at the highest, wouldn't I still get halfway, or does it set based on whichever one was touched last? That would be slick... never seen it though.

I am fairly certain there are master dimmer and slave dimmers.

You install the master which does the actual dimming and the slaves simply adjust the setting of that dimmer.

Didn't need to--- use them all the time. Maestro's can dim up to 10 locations using one master and 9 slave units. It does this through the direct and deliberate use of magic. Yes, magic--- and it works well.

I know, I noticed that.

Those Maestros are pretty good, I've installed them before for customers who wanted to be able to dim their bedroom light as they walked around the room, or if they were laying in bed.

Doesn't compare to the Graphic Eyes though.

I may not have spelled that right.
