Can you connect a circuit to the cover of a junction or pull box?

Hi All,

I have a situation where there is a 12" x 12" x 4" flush mounted pull box. We want to bring in two 3/4" Liquidtight non metallic connectors to feed the solar generated AC into the main panel, the cover of this box has access to the 2" conduits to both the panel and for an outside disconnect. It seems to make the most sense coming in the front without disturbing the wall (it was a semi prefab house). I have looked through all the general articles and don't see anything that says I can't. 314.22 and the exception addresses surface extensions for boxes, but it doesn't necessary address this. I know you can buy 4" and octagonal covers with KO's, so maybe it's ok.

Yes it will be a flexible connection to facilitate removing the cover. Yes there is plenty of space in the box for the connections. No it will not compromise grounding.

The forums thoughts on this would be appreciated.

Thanks
John

Just because code doesn't say you can't do it, doesn't mean you can

The closest code rule match would be the exception to 314.22, but it is not an exact match for this installation.

Thanks, That seems to answer it. Of course I am looking all through my 2017 handbook which has omitted that exhibit. There is no change from 2014. Of course I had the 2014 handbook 12" away (as measured along the counter) and I never picked it up. I have never had the occasion to need to do this before but thinking back I see it all the time in office partitions.

Thanks for the help
