So customers order a chandelier smaller than needed. Was going to extend the fixture for her. Called Kichler said has to be done in house.
Kinda makes sense but why does my supply house sell fixture wire if I can’t rewire a fixture?

But you can rewire a fixture but you probably can't get the company that made it to give their approval or a warranty.

Go ahead, you know you want to.

I have rewired them and changed the chain. For an electrician it's really a simple job but will probably void the warranty as growler suggested.

Is the chandelier really that expensive it needs a warranty?
After all, it’s a wire connected to some fancy bulb holders in a pretty housing…
What would they need to warranty you couldn’t pick up at a big box store cheap?

I am sure you won't need their warranty.

Kitcher's warranty is probably one year any way and the fixture will last a lot longer than that. U have rewired many chandeliers big and small. Just get it rewired.

BTW, what type of fixture is it?

Now that I think about I don't even know that they have a warranty but I'm pretty sure they wouldn't let you return an item after you rewire it.

Like most people I have never asked for permission I just go ahead and rewire as needed.

I would caution that you don't leave any tool marks during disassembly or reassembly. I would assume this is their main concern.

Yes, I agree it’s easy, but my loud moth already told homeowner it will void ul listing now I can’t claim ignorance now.
Mounting the fixture to the ceiling probably voids the UL listing. A listing simply says the factory manufactured it per their and UL procedures, therefore there is nothing you can do that violates it. Although it is possible for you to invalidate. It is up to the AHJ to approve field modifications.

I agree that replacing, not lengthening the wire is the way to go. All the way from the fixture's J-box to the ceiling canopy.

By the way, a good tip for lengthening or shortening a chandelier chain is to twist the link open, rather than opening it like a C.

That way, you can twist it extra to get it fully closed, rather than trying to squeeze it closed, which always springs back open a bit.

I guess I should of been clearer. I was going to completely remove old wire and install one single wire.
just seems dumb manufacturers tell me can’t do that. Like install fan speed control on fans manufactures say have to use theirs. Dumb

Just do it and don't look back.
