Can you ID this device?

I think it is used to control the volume of a bell for a simple infirmary emergency call system.

I don't have the luxury of tracing the wires or playing with it.
 
agree. Looks like an interval timer... % time on--% time off
seen them used on alarm.. device sounds for "X" time, then off "Y" time, etc. makes the sound uniquely identifiable.
 
Messy wiring and no ID on the conductors..............but a nice bit of C-rail and terminals.
 
It is probably a repeat cycle timer. Augie mentioned interval timer, but a true interval timer goes through the programmed interval once then needs reset before it will go through again. This one keeps cycling on time, off time, on time, off time .... as long as there is an input signal.
 
1587733508624.pngOmron has repeat cycle timers, but they look like this one. Two dials centered on common midpoint, and multiple time ranges from a second to ten hours per division on the dial.
