Can you splice in a Lb ?

I m having trouble looking it up in the code and also old threads...Can you splice in a LB if it takes up less than 75% of its area and also marked with its volume(314 C 2) I am not sure what an lb be would be in the book?conduit body, wireway ,pull box ,jbox, or something else or a combination

An Lb is a conduit body and yes you can splice in them.
Read art. 314.16(C)(2)

You may be correct.. I am confused by the short radius conduit bodies in (C)(1)..I have seen splices in LB with #12 but it may not be legal. I cannot see why a bigger cable is legal and a smaller one not. I never splice in them. It would be difficult to get the fill compliant esp. if you are suppose to leave 6" on each wire.

I think art. 314.5 is talking about pulling elbows.

What are you looking to splice in what size LB?

I'm looking at a 1/2" PVC LB. It's marked 4.5 cu.in. With no splices I pull 3 #14"s in it and thats 6 cu.in. But we are allowed to use it as per the the second sentence of 314(C)(1).

So even no splice exceeds the fill of the conduit body.

I was just asked a question and wanted to be sure b4 I answered it...The guy wanted to know if he could splice 4/0 in a LB? Apparently someone did a 600 A service with a CT cabinet outside..They put 2- 200a discos inside and 1- 200A disc outside (for the detached garage).. They basically want to find the quickest way to fix it B4 the boss finds out..Especially since the last house they did they pulled the homeruns to the wrong side of the house....Who has time to see where the service is going to hit at??

Probably not these guys. I'm guessing they are busy looking for another job.

As far as the splices in the LB, whats plan B?

He said the wires woudlnt be long enough. But I dont see why not they will just have to get back into the cabinet and run new ones into the basement...I get a kick out of it .. I usually work alone and dont get to see what others are doing...

When you asked "can you splice in an LB ? " I had a picture in my mind of some #12 Not 4/0 ''Bad, very bad '' Go and kick some one see if you can get them to use thier brain.
