Candlepower formula

I need a formula to determine how many candlepower I have on my swimming pool surface and at the pool deck at a distance of four feet from the edge of the pool. I know the height of my fixtures, their distance from the pool edge, and their output in lumens. The health department is requiring any pool open after dusk to have a minimum of 3 candlepower within 4 feet of the pool perimeter. Frankly, I don't believe that 3 candlepower is a lot of light, and I am certain that I surpass their requirement, but I need to calculate the output to be certain.

I'd recommend using a light meter, rather than calculating.

If this is an existing installation, get a light meter. If calculations are required, use something like Lithonia's Visual software.

You need to measure FOOTCANDLES, not candlepower.
