someone told me there is a city inspector who
"you better not let him see you using an MC cable stripper "
you know thecanOpener
that anybody ever hear about that
that there is some inspectors
that want to use side cutters. Only?

I had one inspector had me
empty my tool bag and show
that I didn't have any crimp connectors
for ground wires

That is funny. :lol::lol:

What city are you talking about??

That is one arrogant SOB

That kind of attitude would never go very far with me.
I am not afraid to challenge any inspector.
No Crimps , Are you kidding?
No Roto-strip.

Thought I've heard it all.

I had a bunch of guys come up and tell me I should go hide my tubing cutter that I use on 1/2 and 3/4 EMT because the inspector was coming. I laughed. The way they were going on you would have thought I was walking around carrying an assault weapon.

i've been using one on steel tube for over 30 years. where do you hide yours?

unless you are a total dork and run the wheel waaaay in, you don't leave a
rolled edge.

you have to be smarter than the object you are dealing with. that seems
to cause some folks problems.

Stays in my tool pouch, open carry. I did a short stint as an instrument fitter in the 90's and carried it over when I started being a sparky. Beats dragging around a hacksaw. I freaked guys out all the time for years till Greenlee came out with their version, which sucks BTW. Not only that they went and legitimized me so I'm not such a rebel anymore.....stinkers.

Beyond cutting techniques too I'd say.

what would be wrong with that? :)

personally, I would like to ban the crimping pliers and only allow people to carry and use an actual ratcheting crimping tool. too easy to make a bad crimp with a pair of the pliers.

What code rule did the inspector cite ? There isn't one unless its a local amendment which I doubt. Where does this guy get off injecting his own personal opinions as to what tool is allowed ? Crimps, Roto Splits are both commonly accepted tools in use daily.

It isn't the inspector's business. His business is the electrical work you did not your personal tools. I would say he is overstepping his bounds and probably
enjoys doing that. Missed his calling, should have been a cop.

when I see a roto-split being used I normally give the electrician an "atta-boy":)

Just like rogue cops, the only way to get rid of these bozos is to stand up to them.

Unfortunately you can't get the ACLU to come to your rescue like when a cop violates your civil rights.
