I am trying to connect to an AB PLC 5/12 controller using a 1784-U2DHP adapter. The adapter is configured and according to the lights, it is talking to the DH+ network. In RSLinks I can see node 01 as KF but RSLogix does not recognize it as a PLC. Any thoughts?

Was it working previously and not it has stopped, or is this the first time you are trying to connect to it?

This is the first time I have tried to connect to it. Others may have previously but I don't know for sure. The PLC has been in place for some time

An update for any of you interested. This PLC uses the old AB 6200 software so in order for RSLogix to see the PLC and connect, I had to put it in program mode (normally running 24/7 so had to wait for machine to be down to try).

Might be time to think about planning that upgrade. PLC5s are now all obsolete and no longer made because the key components inside of them are no longer made, so you will be scavenging for parts from the used / surplus market from here on out.

You can often work with you AB rep and get better pricing on replacements, they used to offer a Step Forward program. And the PLC5 was replaced with SLC, 20+ years ago, that platform is going away.'
Also AB may have an interface card that will take the SLC5 IO and communicate to a control or compact logix processor.

One more comment, there are surplus companies that buy up obsolete hardware, and yes you can buy used, but very expensive.

Officially the "Step Forward" upgrade discount program ended a couple of years ago, but most of the local Rockwell people will cajole a discount for you if done in the same spirit of upgrading, meaning you get the discount and assistance in upgrading and you turn in the old PLC-5 hardware.

Unfortunately, this company doesn't shell out money for upgrades until catastrophic failure so I'm stuck with them for now. I have worked in places where they used the PLC 5 racks as remote I/O which were controlled by control logix PLCs
