Re: can't spell luminaire

I don't where the threads are located, but the bottom line is that fixture wires, uses not permitted, states that fixture wire cannot be used for branch circuit wiring. (art. 402). Also see the definition of fixture wires and you will find that they go from a junction box to a light, not from a switch to a light. What you describe is an illegal branch circuit tap.

where is #14 awg allowed on #20 amp circuit, when it pertains to branch lighting circuit. it's not fixture and it's not feeder.

Nowhere, it's not permitted.

Re: can't spell luminaire

I think there was a time when you could pigtail a 20 amp circuit with #14 wire.

e.g. Receptacle outlet with three 12/2 romex's. you could splice the three and pigtail with #14 to feed the receptacle.

I believe this was removed from the code to humor Canada. Just like we now have to run a four wire to a dryer and stove. That was to make our codes in line with Canada's.

I don't know much about the CEC, but I think that the 4-wire appliance circuts have much more to do with safety than with being in line with another country.

I always thought the 4 wire for a stove and dryer was beacause of 120 volt components built into the units like lights, timers, and other 120 volt controlled items that require a neutral would apply here.
