Dad didn't have much to say about menorahs burning down the house....there are candles on a menorah or are they lamped?

Real candles, but they aren't left lit very long. Hour or so. And of course, they aren't placed on a big pile of tinder either.

We have one of each; the electric one doesn't get a prayer.

Interesting fact:

First residence that used electricity: JP Morgan
First home fire casued by electrical failure: JP Morgans house
Burned up a prized rug and his wifes desk.

I worked in his residence (now a library) he had steam-operated steel window shutters, used to prevent the throngs of starving people from attacking his family during the depression.

Almost every time I watch the news and there is a residential fire the news people say it is is electrical. Even while it is still burning.

I tell people that when they question why I do some things and comply with code - If the fire marshal can't find the real cause of the fire, it's an electrical problem.

Fire Marshall Code:
if (Fire < 20ft to furnace) then goto BlameFurnace
else goto ElectricalFire

A lot of Christmas trees are grown in my area and shipped around the country. A few years back some growers started spraying them with a green dye shortly before cutting. I found out that dye is also a fire retardant. And it works great. I tried to burn one in the snow bank like I always do after Christmas, and the darned thing wouldn't burn. I was pretty amazed.
