How many wall mounted fixtures are damp location rated and have no gasket?

How many of us have mounted light fixtures to a brick surface and the box the fixture was mounted on had a mortar joint near or the fixture had a small escutcheon, thus allowing water into the top of the box/fixture escutcheon. This plastic cover would be more water tight than one of those fixtures.

Yeah, I know what your thinking, a good electrician would silicone the top of the fixture. I think that a good mason would fill (not tool the joint) the mortar joint around the fixture opening.

I like those covers but the only thing I'd be concerned with is that it attaches to the bracket with something in the likes of a zip tie as opposed to screws. On the other hand it's not like you'll be removing the cover often and wearing out the teeth on that little post in the center.

It has a push in hole for flat ceilings and a thread in hole for uneven ceilings.

Would the canopy on the fixture or fan to be installed, need any more "damp" protection

than that blank cover ? Not that I have seen.

Under a soffit, not a problem and why waste money and time on silicone just to make a mess when you have to go back and place a fixture on it.
